Sharon wins
The Amalinda Collection’s director of marketing, Mrs Sharon Stead wins two prestigious awards in Zimbabwe
At a glamorous Black Tie event, held at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo on Friday night, the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, recognised members of the business community for their courageous achievements in the business sector.
Mr Ncube, Regional Manager of ZNCC, commended and awarded Sharon Stead, owner of The Amalinda Collection as Businesswomen of the Year, and also, the top honour of Overall Business Person 2016. He said this was in recognition of her potential growth, mentorship of young women, skills development and involvement in projects aimed at empowering others as well as job creation. “We wish to congratulate Sharon for this visible and recognisable business expertise. As a Chamber, we wish her the best in her future business activities and join the rest of the business community in Matabeleland Region in honouring her for a job well done.
Sharon was, unfortunately, unable to attend this prestigious function last night due to tourism commitments in the USA at this time – she is attending the Tour & Travel Exchange in Phoenix Arizona, a tourism networking conference. However, these awards were collected by her fellow directors and family of The Amalinda Collection. When reached for comment in the US, Sharon Stead gracefully said “ I am overwhelmed by this great honour. It has never been an ambition or goal of mine to receive these amazing awards, however, it is always inspiring to be recognised for the work we have done in our community and in the business arena as a whole. What this means for women’s empowerment within my country is significant. I congratulate my peers who have stood here in the run up for this award – we, as women know the daily challenges we face and I encourage them to work alongside me to make Zimbabwe great and to create a platform to launch our future generations from. That’s got to be our ultimate goal.
But I couldn’t have achieved this position as Overall Business Person 2016, without the support of my husband, whom I’ve worked with hand in hand for the past 24 years, and of course, my devoted parents who are also my business partners. You gave me the wings to fly. I’d also like to acknowledge and thank my wonderful staff who have stood by me and grown with me over the years – if it wasn’t for their belief in my dreams and in our vision, I wouldn’t be receiving this award tonight. With this award comes great expectation and responsibility – and I will make it my living purpose to leave a legacy for the children of Zimbabwe. And this is my promise to you, and my country. “
