• Matopos National Park

Amalinda Lodge/Amalinda Private Villa is built in the caves and crevices in-between the huge granite boulders that the magnificent Matopos has on offer. This creates a cooler surrounding as the granite rock is generally heat resistant it give off little warmth throughout the warmer times of the day.

The granite hills were formed over 2 billion years ago with granite being forced to the surface, this has eroded to produce smooth “whaleback dwalas” and broken kopjes, strewn with boulders and interspersed with thickets of vegetation. The Ndebele gave the area its name, meaning ‘Bald Heads’.

An area of high botanic diversity, with over 200 species of tree, there is also a wide diversity of fauna including white rhino, antelope, and leopard.
